Documents to prepare

• The child's own identity and birth details; ask which documents are accepted if no NIE is available.
• Parent/guardian identity and evidence of guardianship or relevant custody arrangements.
• Address evidence requested for the school area, plus contact details for school communications.
• Previous school reports and completed stages where available; ask whether translation or formal recognition is required for the selected stage.
• Regional application, ordered school preferences and any evidence for priority criteria you actually claim.

Steps in order

1. 1Contact the competent education authority for the region/municipality and explain the child's age, previous studies and arrival date.
2. 2Confirm stage and placement assessment; ask about language support and the appropriate admission channel.
3. 3Find the current regional calendar. Write down application, provisional allocation, correction/appeal and enrolment dates separately.
4. 4Check local school options, available places and which preference order you must submit. Confirm rules before assuming a nearby school is guaranteed.
5. 5Submit the application with the child's details and guardian evidence. Retain the submission number and a copy of school preferences.
6. 6Review the allocation and respond within the stated correction/appeal period if something is wrong.
7. 7Complete final enrolment at the assigned school before its deadline. Obtain written confirmation and ask about start date, materials, meals, transport and support.

After submitting

• Keep the final enrolment confirmation per child, not just the application receipt.
• Give health/support information directly to the school through its requested confidential channel, not through this preparation form.
