Social Security number (NUSS)
Check whether a number already exists, then prepare a first application or retrieval through Importass.
NUSS/NAF identifies you with Social Security. Having the number alone does not confirm employment registration or healthcare entitlement.

Procedure in detail
Documents to prepare
- Applicant's accepted identity document, usual address, mobile number and email.
- Any existing Social Security evidence: previous employment record, number report or school insurance record.
- For a first application, the details and form requested by Importass for the selected representation route.
Steps in order
- 1Check whether a NUSS exists from earlier work or school insurance before requesting another.
- 2Open Importass from the official source; choose consultation/accreditation for an existing number, or first application if none exists.
- 3Select an identity method you can actually use. No NUSS yet means SMS identification is not available for the first-number route.
- 4Review name, identity document and address; use the child's details when representing a child.
- 5Submit only on Importass, retain the receipt and follow any request for additional evidence.
- 6Download the assigned/existing number report and check personal details. Give it to the employer when relevant; affiliation/work registration is a separate action.
After submitting
- Keep the number report; do not request a new number for a job change.
- Correct errors through TGSS before reusing the number in another procedure.
