Documents to prepare
- Latest bill/contract, tariff and service address; keep the service identifier in your own file for the supplier.
- Proof of occupancy/ownership and holder authority where requested; provide identity/payment details only through the supplier's verified channel.
- Dated meter readings or equipment record, photos, desired effective date and prior case references.
- A written comparison of standing charges, usage prices, extra services, term, exit costs and connection costs.
Steps in order
- 1Identify the actual holder, service point and requested change.
- 2Confirm whether this is a holder change, new connection, transfer, switch, closure or complaint; these are different requests.
- 3Request the exact documents, costs, effect on existing terms and service dates in writing.
- 4Check the offer and any added maintenance or insurance services; approve only the intended request.
- 5Submit through the provider's confirmed channel and save the complete request and reference.
- 6Coordinate access, installation or meter readings; ask how service continuity and old-account closure will be handled.
- 7Verify the effective date and first/final bill, and follow up discrepancies using the reference.
After submitting
- Keep the confirmation, readings and final settlement together.
- Track any complaint response and the correct consumer escalation route.
- Check that unwanted additional services and recurring charges were addressed explicitly.
